Things to do in Raleigh, North Carolina

Galaxy Con

It’s no accident we choose to have NPC the same weekend as Galaxy Con! We figured what a fun way to give visitors to the area more pop culture and fandom options than just the nerdcore scene! The guestlist is still updating as they get more celebrities, but it gets to be pretty impressive. We’ve met members of The Office, N*SYNC, Brendan Fraser, the Mandolorian cast members, and more! The showroom floor is solid as well with tons of awesome vendors! Lastly, there are some great panels as well to keep ya entertained when not attending NPC!

Scoot around Historic Oakwood

If you’re feeling adventurous and like riding those electric scooters that are scattered around the downtowns of US cities, then we recommend doing so around Historic Oakwood. It’s an old neighborhood on the northeast side of downtown that has sleepy streets with beautiful historic homes. It’s mostly shaded and is just a peaceful (and cool) way to spend a day on a summer afternoon or evening! The cemetery in the area is also a nice place for a stroll (or scoot) as strange as that sounds. We would recommend starting or ending an excursion like this at Transfer Co. Food Hall!

Alamo Drafthouse Theater

If you’re a cinephile and you get in a night early, stay an extra day, or whatever it may be, go to the Alamo Drafthouse. It’s a movie theater built for people who love film and cinema. All the small details that you don’t think of when going to the movies are optimized with care. There are also strict no-talking, texting, and phones out rules, which add up to a really enjoyable experience. Oh, and they serve delicious food and drinks for you to eat while enjoying your movie. P.S. The milkshakes are a must-try!

Hang out at a Barcade

No meet and greets at a barcade this year, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t check one out in your free time while in Raleigh! Boxcar is an awesome location featuring tons of pinball machines, classic arcade offerings, and more! It’s also next-door neighbors with a brewery, chocolate factory, and BBQ joint. You can easily make an afternoon by checking out this area downtown!

Museums

If museums are your vibe, then you could easily spend a day checking out each of the North Carolina museums of Natural Sciences and of History. They’re right by the state capital and Fayetteville Street, so you could make a run of seeing the center of downtown in the process!

Good Food

There are so many good food options in the Raleigh area. In fact, we made a whole post about it, check it out here!
